My Landscape

“To the complaint, ‘There are no people in these photographs.’
I respond, “there are always two people in every photograph: the photographer and the viewer.”
I wish I had said this but, it is attributed to Ansel Adams.

It does however sum up my thoughts on Landscape Photography.
Why do it?  Who is it for?  These are not questions I can easily answer, and yet I get so much pleasure from a solo landscape shoot, it can be hard to describe.

The quality of image taken during a day’s shoot is not what determines the degree of satisfaction. A good image is, after all, ‘in the eye of the beholder’.  For me, the joy of photography comes from a day in the open air; a plan well executed; the patience afforded whilst waiting for nature to deliver its wonder and of course from the glass of wine that awaits back home.

You will not see me in any of the images on display. but I am in every frame – happy.

Allow Me

Allow me to love the country,
its rivers and valley, its coast and cliffs,
its waves and shoreline.

Allow me to feel nature
shaping the mountains,
feeding the woodlands,
creating the colours
sometimes delicately – sometimes not.

Allow me the clouds and pebbles,
the burning sunrise, its evening counterpart.
Allow me the island and the lake
the ruin, the ivy and allow
the capture of these moments,
content. But certain in the knowledge
that I will never truly do them justice.
